When the Trees Start Speaking

The first thing to disappear is not the forest.

It is the birdsong.

Then the shade.
Then the scent of rain caught in pine needles.
Then the quiet certainty that this place would still be here tomorrow.

Wildfire is not always the enemy.
Some forests have learned its language over thousands of years.
They open their cones after heat.
They begin again.

But these fires are different.

They arrive hotter.
They run faster.
They leap rivers, climb mountains, swallow towns, chase families down roads lined with smoke and memory.

They leave behind more than black earth.

They leave empty nests.
Silent rivers.
Animals searching for homes that no longer exist.
People holding house keys that open nothing.

Somewhere, a firefighter walks into a wall of heat for a stranger.
Somewhere, a child asks why the sky has turned orange.
Somewhere, an old tree that stood through centuries finally falls.

The flames do not ask who we voted for.
They do not stop at borders.
They do not recognise wealth, language, or flags.

They simply burn.

Perhaps caring for forests begins long before the first spark.

It begins when we refuse to look away.
When we protect old woodland instead of treating it as empty land.
When we clear what can be cleared.
When we plant what can be planted.
When we understand that every tree is quietly working a lifetime for creatures it will never meet.

Maybe hope looks less like a grand speech,
and more like muddy boots,
charred hands planting tiny saplings,
volunteers carrying exhausted wildlife,
neighbours opening doors to strangers,
children learning that the Earth is borrowed, never owned.

One tree cannot stop a wildfire.

One person cannot heal a planet.

But forests were never built by one tree,
and tomorrow has always belonged to those who plant something they may never live to sit beneath.

The smoke will lift.

The ash will settle.

The first green shoot will push through blackened soil with astonishing courage.

And when it does,
may we remember that the world has been asking us, all along,
not simply to admire nature,

but to care for it before it has to scream.

If only!

Upon this fragile Earth, our shared abode,

In woven tapestry of life, we thread.

Through common grace, let peace be our mode,

With hearts united, by compassion led.

Each sunset’s hue, each morning’s gentle light,

Unfolds in every land, for every eye.

Bound not by borders, shared is the night,

The moon’s soft glow in each and every sky.

Let’s halt the echo of the war drums’ beat,

And weave a song of peace, in words so sweet.

Our differences can make the whole complete,

For peace’s victory, let hate’s retreat.

So, let us choose to walk this gentle path,

Where love’s the guide, and peace the aftermath.

IMPOSSIBILITIES IN THE WORLD

IMPOSSIBILITIES IN THE WORLD

1)    You can’t count your hair.
2)    You can’t wash your eyes with soap.
3)    You can’t breathe when your tongue is out.
Put your tongue back in your mouth, you silly person.

Ten (10) Things I know about you….
1) You are reading this
2) You are human.
3) You can’t say the letter ”P” without separating your lips.
4) You just attempted to do it.
6) You are laughing at yourself.
7) You have a smile on your face and you skipped No. 5.
8) You just checked to see if there is a No. 5.
9) You laugh at this because you are a fun loving person & everyone does it too.
10) You are probably going to send this to see who else falls for it.

Have a great Day.  Laugh, and then laugh some more and sing “Oh, What a Beautiful Morning” – even when it’s not.

“Do not regret growing older.  It is a privilege denied to many.”
