Enid Blyton, my first ever book

31 May
Daily writing prompt
What’s the first book you ever finished and still remember to this day?

The first book I ever read from cover to cover was Five on Kirrin Island Again by Enid Blyton when I was eleven years old. I still remember the excitement of turning each page and being swept away into a world of mystery, adventure, and friendship. This story changed everything. It opened a door to imagination and showed me that books could transport you to places far beyond your everyday life.

Looking back, that novel sparked a lifelong love of reading and storytelling. It was the beginning of a journey that would eventually lead me to become a writer myself. Even now, whenever I think about the books that shaped me, Enid Blyton’s adventurous tales hold a special place in my heart.

As I have been an avid reader ever since, the next one I remember was The Pig Man by Paul Zindel. Brilliant read. I was just 12.

Superb. Assuming I read them in the ‘correct’ order, I read “Five on a Treasure Island” first. It may have been my first ever book, but I can’t remember now. I read them all, loved them. Another favourite was “The Secret Island”. Enid Blyton got me into reading.

I think I didn’t even own the book I read; I borrowed it from my cousin. Books were not a thing when I was growing up, maybe that’s why I grew to love them, to step inside another place for a while. Loved my local library. I read them all in the end 🙂

The Treasure Hunters was my first book. My Nanna would sometimes give me 10 or 20 cents. I would save up and buy Famous Five Books with the money. I wouldn’t buy lollies with it…just Blyton books. I’ve still got those books somewhere. It’s great to read on my kindle or tablet though. You can take your whole library with you, anywhere
